Tribute

Richard “Dick” Kaufmann’s life began on July 8, 1925 in Chicago, IL; the son of A.H. and Louise (Haake) Kaufmann. Dick graduated from high school and then proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Army. He was proud to have participated in the liberation of some of the prisoner of war camps. After the war, he attended the American Conservatory of Music on the G.I. Bill. He met Dorothy “Dot” Corson in the church choir and they were united in marriage on April 26, 1952 in Oak Park, IL. They were blessed with 4 children, Gail, Wendy, Heidi and Scott, to whom Dick was a great father. Their children were mostly raised in Chillicothe, MO, where Dick worked as an investment advisor. Dick and Dot recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. Dick worked hard for his family, retiring after 35 years as a financial advisor for Edward Jones. Dick was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado and participated in the church choir. He had also sung with other choruses as well as for weddings and funerals. He was an ardent Jayhawks fan. He participated in several sports. He was especially passionate about running and competed in several races, often winning in his age group. He was also an avid golfer, tennis player and snow skier—sharing these activities with friends and family made it all the better him. Dick enjoyed working hard, playing hard and loved his family dearly. His loving family includes his daughters Gail Kaufmann of Wichita, Wendy Kaufmann of Wichita, Heidi (Frank) Mostek of Kirkwood, MO; son Scott (Susan) Kaufmann of Fairway, KS; grandchildren Lily and Natalie Kaufmann and Izzy, Elvis, and Angela Mostek. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Gene Kaufmann and sister Claire Kaufmann. Friends may gather with the family on Saturday, June 17 at 3pm at the First Presbyterian Church of El Dorado for a Celebration of Life. Memorial contributions in Dick’s name may be directed to the American Red Cross, Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), and Meals on Wheels in El Dorado or to the First Presbyterian Church.
