Tribute

John Alan Green, better known as Alan, entered eternal life unexpectedly at his home on November 28, 2022. Alan was born and raised in Ford County, KS, just outside of Dodge City, KS on October 9, 1952, to Wesley and Edna Green, the youngest of ten children. They always called him “baby brother” since all the siblings helped in his upbringing. He attended St. Francis Seminary in Victoria, KS and graduated from Dodge City Senior High. Alan graduated from both Dodge City Community College and St. Mary of the Plains College with a degree in Secondary Education. He received a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix, then began teaching in public education at Dodge City High School for twelve years. He taught at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs for fifteen years. While in adoration in Woodland Park, CO, Alan felt called to leave Colorado and return to Kansas to start Catholic Radio in Wichita, KS. He moved to Wichita and was blessed with the opportunity to teach classes in Theology at Kapaun Mount Carmel High School for four years. Alan had a love for basketball. He played for St. Mary of the Plains while in college and wherever he could find a “get up game”. Alan met his goal of swimming a 100-mile challenge twice at the local YMCA. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling to see new places. Alan was a lifelong teacher of his faith and passed along his passion for history. Alan was a daily Mass goer and was grateful for those opportunities at St. John’s Catholic Church. This was an important part of his daily routine and rarely ever missed daily Mass or his adoration hour. He often said with his prayers, “Let us be better saints today than yesterday.” He was involved in several ministries such as Cursillo, Rachel’s Vineyard, St. Dismas Prison Ministry and Knights of Columbus, where he served as District Deputy and was also a Match2 mentor to the incarcerated at EDCF. He was the manager of the Catholic radio station 1360KAHS for five years, devoutly prayed for the unborn and was involved in the Pro-Life ministry. He is survived by his wife, Donna, his son Joshua Green of Colorado Springs, and daughter Jonna (Matt) Conway of Kazakhstan. He is survived by seven grandchildren; Aiden, Emma and Eli Green, Caleb, Malachi, Charis and Canaan Conway. The marriage to Donna brought numerous children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to his life. His is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Jan Startz and Linda Offerley, and grandsons Hunter Griffin and Jackson Wilson.
