Ilene Mae Proctor

Longtime El Dorado, and former Rooks County resident Ilene Proctor, died Sunday, October 6, 2019 at her home in El Dorado, with her loving family at her side. She was 82 years of age.
She was born Ilene Mae Davey in Webster, Kansas on January 20, 1937, the daughter of Nettie M. (Campbell) and George Thomas. She grew up in Stockton, graduating with the class of 1955. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree from Kansas State, and then attended and received her Master’s Degree from Emporia State in Psychology with an emphasis in Special Education. She attained the status of a 4.0 GPA while at Emporia State.
On May 22, 1960, Ilene was united in marriage to Robert Proctor at the Stockton United Methodist Church.
Her working career included teaching Home Economics and as a 4-H agent in Linn County. She taught Home Ec. for 3 years in Bonner Springs, KS to put her husband Robert through medical school. After Robert graduated medical school, she became a devoted housewife raising their 3 children. When her youngest child finished high school she went back to work as a Special Education teacher at El Dorado High School for 12 years. She retired from teaching in 2000, but continued to support education as the Butler County Special Education IEP coordinator for 3 years.
Ilene enjoyed cooking, working in the garden, and from her years in 4-H, was a meticulous seamstress. She was a member of the El Dorado chapter of P.E.O. and the United Methodist Women’s Circle.
Ilene will be remembered as a generous person, hard worker, and a faithful and loving wife and mother.
Preceding Ilene in death were her parents, and three sisters: Dorothy Maxine Carsten, Avis Marie Davey, and Lorene Martha Davey.
Surviving family members include her loving husband of 59 years Dr. Robert Proctor of their home in El Dorado, daughter Alice Proctor of Waconia, MN, Wayne Proctor of El Dorado, and Alan Proctor of McKinney, TX. She is also survived by her grandson Jayce Proctor of McKinney, TX.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado. Burial will be in the Stockton Cemetery on Friday, October 11 at 10:30 A.M.
