Edith Marie (Klaus) Leiker of El Dorado, KS was born on November 6, 1940 in Hays, KS; the daughter of Nicholas J. Sr. and Christina M. (Eaton) Klaus and the second oldest of eight children. She graduated from Girls Catholic High School in Hays, KS. Edith was united in marriage to Wayne A. Leiker, Sr. in Hays, KS on June 21, 1958. Besides a devoted wife and mother, Edith held many administrative positions in El Dorado throughout her career culminating in Deputy Treasurer, Butler County, Kansas.
Edith was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sibling and friend. She was a selfless and generous person and always put her family first. She could always be seen in the stands of her children’s football, basketball, baseball and wrestling events cheering on their teams. She instilled many values in her children including unconditional love, family values, respect, honesty, hard work, and a deep love for God. A lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in El Dorado, KS, Edith enjoyed her Catholic faith. She and Wayne, helped sponsor a relocated family who fled communist Czechoslovakia and settled in El Dorado, KS. Earlier in her life, she enjoyed running and long bicycle rides, and visiting family wherever they lived. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with Wayne with their RV group around the United States and Canada.
Her greatest joy in life was her family which includes, her sons, Wayne (Connie) Leiker, Jr. of Goldsby, OK and COL Cameron (BG Maria Biank) Leiker of Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren, Erica (Brendon) VanDorn of Fort Worth, TX, Daniel (Stephanie) Leiker of Norman, OK, Christina (Chris) Zimmerman of St. Francis, KS, Julia Leiker and Anthony Leiker of Williamsburg, VA, and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Edward (Janice) Klaus, John (Diana) Klaus, Albert (Joyce) Klaus, and Charles (Rose) Klaus.
Edith went home to her Lord on November 7, 2023 at Homestead Senior Living of El Dorado, KS. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne A. Leiker, Sr.; four children, Mary, Joseph, Anne, and John; her parents, Nicholas and Christina and three siblings, Nicholas, Jr. (Charlotta), Virgil (Carol), and Lois.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Munjor, KS led by Father John Lanzrath at 10 AM on Saturday, December 16, 2023, followed immediately with her interment in St. Francis Cemetery in Munjor, KS, where she will be laid to rest beside Wayne and her deceased children.
