Tribute

Jean Poe, 91, went to be in Heaven with our loving God and her loving husband, Bob, surrounded by many loved ones on July 26, 2021. The daughter of George A. Rapp, Sr. and Magdalena (Theobold) Rapp, Jean was born on September 22, 1929, in St. Louis, MO. She attended St. Frances de Sales grade school and graduated from Rosati-Kain Catholic High School. After graduation, Jean worked for AT&T where she met the love of her life, Bob, who was working as a contractor for AT&T. On June 26, 1948, Jean was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) L. Poe, Sr. in St. Charles, MO. She and Bob moved from the “big city” of St. Louis to the plains of Kansas. There they raised their family of five boys and one daughter in El Dorado, where she has been a resident for the past 72 years.
Jean was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where she was a member of the Women’s Altar Society. She will always be remembered for her countless hours and years of volunteer work helping the poor through the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which she loved so much. For a number of years, Jean did the housekeeping and cooking for the Priests and Nuns of St. John’s Parish. Her steadfast faith and devotion to God has, and will continue to be, an inspiration to her family and friends. In addition to her volunteer work, Jean also worked for AT&T, K-T Oil Company, Mitchell Oil Company, and Triple A Builders.
Jean loved her family very much and is survived by her children and family who will carry her in their hearts forever, including sons: Mike (Cathy) Poe, Gilbert, AZ; Paul Poe, El Dorado; Bob (Teresa) Poe, Jr., El Dorado; Jim (Diane) Poe, Keller, TX; and daughter Jeanette (Russell) Bowker, Wichita. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, who loved her so dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, Sr.; parents George and Magdalena; brothers George, Jr., Ken, and David; sisters Betty, Virginia, Helen, Carolyn, and Dorothy; son Tom Poe; grandson Brock Poe; and daughters-in law Debbie (Copeland) Poe and Donna Domann.
