Alan’s life began on March 7, 1950 in Wichita, KS; the son of James P. and Gladys H. (Smith) Coffman. Alan had a passion for engineering and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Wichita State University. He was united in marriage to Georgia L. Young on September 3, 1971 in Valley Center, KS. Alan worked hard for his family working as an engineer for the Department of Defense. He was musically talented and played the harmonica, trombone and sousaphone throughout the years. Alan especially enjoyed playing folk and bluegrass music on the violin and fiddle. Alan also held an appreciation for photography, science fiction and spouting random facts. He loved to watch British detective shows on television and loved “Dr. Who”. While Alan held many passions, he was most passionate about his family, which includes his daughter, April Coffman of El Dorado; grandchildren Austin Olson of Augusta, Aubrey (Scott Buess) Olson of Dallas, TX, Autumn Olson of El Dorado; great grandchildren Kaiser Buess and Knute Buess; siblings Carolyn Eastman, Dale Coffman, Byron Coffman and Barbara Coffman as well as many nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. Alan passed away on September 27, 2022 in Augusta, KS. He is preceded in death by his wife, Georgia; his sister, Roberta Deurksen and his parents. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 4 at 1pm at Walnut Valley Memorial Park in El Dorado. Memorial contributions in Alan’s name may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
